I CAN HEAR THE WAR DRUMS FROM A FAR.

By Dehveed Ochilloh

When campaigns started, Kenyans were so into peace keeping. Groups were formed and intentions were made just to promote peace. 2007/08 pev was still clear in the minds of Kenyans. I heard people confess they will never engage in violence.

Today it is unfortunate, the story has changed. People are ganging up, the war drums are being beaten. Warlords are taking the final puffs of the stuff they use. The cool, sober and clear atmosphere is being replaced by tensed, foggy and blurred atmosphere. Those who promised not to take sides have started taking side. Impunity is taking position, it's grasping the vacuum in the world of peace. Organizations have started sending people back to their native homes. Propaganda is becoming the order of the day. Those who were to keep peace have been overcome by their emotions and are taking sides. Religious groups are no longer on their knees but rather on their feet, ready to grab the money given by politicians. The demons of war and hate have resurrected and people no longer fear the local judicial systems. People have lost respect to the rule of law. High court has just become a name. The Hague has just become a place in Italy.

This is a time when the founding fathers of this land and nation are crying in their graves as they helplessly watch the turn around of events. At the promulgation of the constitution they were happy and I know the likes of the Late Martin Shikuku explained to them how far we had reached and they knew that this time it must be different. It is sad that our own selfish ambitions are pushing us to hate one another again.

We are all Kenyans. It doesn't matter which color you love most in our national flag. It doesn't matter which tribe you come from. It doesn't matter whether gay or straight, black or white, schooled or unschooled. We are all Kenyans, all God's children and we must embrace one another with love. No politician will send his or her relatives to the street. No politician will tell his or her relatives to write propaganda about his or her opponent. Infact many of us offer our services free. It is not good for us. Let us know that when you cause chaos and later on arrested. it will be you and you alone. This country will continue in whatever state but your life might not continue after the chaos.

To those who are instilling hate amongst us you know what you are doing and it is not good. Whether by not obeying the law or by spreading lies against others. It is not good. Remember if this country burns again, it will be because of you. Let us maintain PEACE LOVE and UNITY.

PEACE, SHALOM, INSHALLAH!
