We will not work with UHURU and RUTO if they win the PRESIDENCY - UK envoy

Thursday February 7, 2013 - British High Commissioner to Kenya, Dr Christian Turner has become the first envoy to publically oppose a UHURUTO leadership by saying that his country will not have contacts with International Criminal Court (ICC) suspects even if they clinch the Presidency on March 4th.

In a comprehensive interview with Citizen TV presenter Hussein Mohammed on Wednesday evening, the envoy said his country upholds the Rome Statute and at no time will they make contact with someone who has been indicted for grave crimes by an international court.

Turner said ICC charges are charges against individuals and not communities, parties or State of Kenya and said Kenyans should not see the ICC issue has a national issue.

He said if the Uhuru/Ruto cooperate with the ICC, his country will continue with cordial relations between Kenya and UK which have existed since independence.

Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta and Eldoret North MP William Ruto have been indicted by the ICC court and are also vying for the Presidency on the March 4th.

Uhuru,Ruto, former Head of Civil Service ambassador Francis Muthaura and radio presenter Joshua Sang have been accused of committing heinous crimes during the 2007-08 post election violence where 1133 people died and 650,000 displaced.

Uhuru, Ruto, Muthaura and Sang were committed to trial by The Hague based court and their cases starts on April 10 and 11.
