MPs affiliated to Cord parties have decided to give today’s swearing in ceremony of President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta a wide berth.

Most of the MPs had not collected their formal invitation cards from their pigeon holes in the Parliament mailroom. They said they have nothing to do with today's events. However, their colleagues in Jubilee said they are looking forward to the ceremony, which they intended to attend.
The Assumption to the Office of the President Committee dispatched invites to all members of the National Assembly and the Senate. The invitations were distributed to MPs yesterday. The decision by Cord MPs seem to be in line with that of the coalition's leadership.
Outgoing Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Wiper Democratic Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Trade minister Moses Wetangula travelled to South Africa at the weekend even though they had been invited to the ceremony.
Yesterday, their aides were unsure whether the three will travel back to attend the swearing-in. According to press reports, the leaders flew out to "take stock" of the March 4 general election and plan on how to provide alternative leadership.
“As the caucus of Nairobi ODM MPs we have decided not to attend the ceremony. We wish Uhuru well on this big day,” Ruaraka MP Tom Kajwang told a press conference at Parliament buildings.
He said Cord supporters are still hurting from the IEBC announcement and the Supreme Court ruling on the outcome of the elections. "We have given them time to heal,” Kajwang said. He said the stance of the Nairobi MPs’ caucus does not necessarily reflect the official position of ODM or that of the its leader, Raila.
