  • There were claims that the deceased was involved in a love triangle which led to constant fights between him and his wife. Mr Kamande, the Maragua MP elect who visited the scene condemned the attack and asked the government to beef up security in the area.

A chief campaigner for Maragua MP elect was found killed on Monday night at his compound in Wempa village, Maragua constituency, Murang’a County.
Witnesses said Mr Stephen Maina Kamonye alias ‘Wa Cathay’ who was among those campaigning for the election of area MP elect Peter Kamande during the just concluded general election was attacked by unknown assailants at around 8:00 pm.
The middle aged man was said to have been walking from his bathroom to his house when unknown assailants attacked him and seriously injured him.
The attackers were said to have fled on foot and stole nothing from the victim which raised eyebrows as to the cause of the murder.
The brother to the deceased Mr Michael Kung’u who lives within the neighbourhood explained how he heard distress calls from the deceased’s home only to find him fighting for his life.
“My brother had deep cuts on the neck and hands when I found him and we rushed him to Thika District Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival,” said a sad Mr Kung’u.
He however complained that police were not co-operative and that it took the intervention of the Provincial Police Officer for them to be able to record statements at Makuyu police station.
Mr Kung’u further claimed that the police did not visit the scene of crime even after the crime was reported.
Although the cause of the murder could not be established immediately, locals suspect that family wrangles could have fueled the incident.
There were claims that the deceased was involved in a love triangle which led to constant fights between him and his wife Mr Kamande, the Maragua MP elect who visited the scene condemned the attack and asked the government to beef up security in the area.
He castigated the police for their laxity in dealing with the matter and urged for speedy investigations to ensure the assailants were brought to book.
Makuyu OCS Richard Ng’eno later arrived at the scene and assured that investigations were ongoing and the perpetrators would be apprehended soon.
At the same time, a two and -a-half year old boy is recovering at hospital after he was allegedly sodomised by a neigbour.
The man who was said to have committed the offence at Kagaa village in Maragua escaped the beating from incensed neighbors.
He was later arrested by the police and is waiting to be charged in court for the offence.
Neighbors said the man lured the minor to his house and sodomised him and later allowed him to go home.
His mother noted he was walking in pain and on inquiring, the child narrated his ordeal and the man was later arrested.
