Saturday June 15, 2013 - The US State Department has
dismissed reports on social media that it has invited Kenya’s Opposition leader
Raila Odinga to meet US President Barrack Obama on in his trip to South Africa.
Through its bureau in Gigiri Nairobi, the State Department’s
communication official in Kenya said the reports are a hoax and if it is true,
the department will first communicate with the Kenyan Government but not
through proxies.
The official who requested anonymity, to observe protocol of
the State Department, said if Raila Odinga is to meet Barrack Obama then he
would meet him as a delegation of the Kenyan Government but not as an
individual.
Early this week, there was intense speculation that Raila,
who is regarded as father of democracy in Kenya, has been invited as a special
guest to US President Barrack Obama on his trip to South Africa on June 26.
