MPs and senators from Rift Valley have accused former Prime
Minister Raila Odinga of capitalising on the on-going teachers strike to
campaign for the rejection of the VAT Bill.
The legislators claimed the campaign is part of Raila's plan
to sabotage the Jubilee government promises to Kenyans. The leaders wondered
why Raila failed to fulfill the 1997 teachers agreement in the 10 years he was
in government, especially when he was a co-principal between 2008-2012.
Cornelius Serem (Aldai), Silas Tiren (Moiben), Oscah Sudi
(Kapseret), Alfred Keter (Nandi-Hills), Ziporah Kering (Women's
Reprepresentative, Nandi) and senators, Henry ole Ndiema (Trans-Nzoia), Stephen
Sang (Nandi) and Susan Chelule of
Nankuru asked Raila to "live up to his promise of hawking mandazi in
Kibera."
“Just like the way he asked former President Moi to retire
and look after his goats in Baringo…he should also retire and sell mandazi in
Kibera as he had vowed to do if he lost the general elections instead of going
round undermining Jubilee,” said the Aldai MP.
Addressing a meeting in Kapsabet African Inland Church that
was attended by Deputy President William Ruto, the leaders said Raila can not
hold the jubilee government accountable after failing to live up to the
promises he made when he was prime minister.
Kenya, Sudi said, will move forward without Raila and
"people should stop dreaming that without him nothing would be
realised." He asked leaders to rally behind President Uhuru Kenyatta and
his deputy William Ruto.
Serem said the Cord leader "has gone back to his
previous tricks of undermining the government to ensure Jubilee fails to meet
promises made to Kenyans of creating job opportunities."
