The British government has expressed it's support for the ongoing security operation in Kenya where Ispector General of Police David Kimaiyo is leading a contingent of Generals Service Unit officers and the Kenya Defence Forces in releasing hostages being held at the Westgate Shopping mall in Nairobi.
Speaking on behalf of the government, British Foreign Secretary William J. Hague has said that his government is keen on ensuring the welfare of the hostage who have been caught up in the incident that took the shoppers and staff by surprise.
"We are aware of a major security incident underway at the Westgate Shopping Centre in Nairobi. We are in close contact with the Kenyan authorities on the ground in Kenya and at ministerial level in the United Kingdom. The prime consideration at present is the welfare of members of the public caught up in this incident." Hague said.
United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon telephoned President Uhuru Kenyatta to express support and condole with the families of those who were killed in the attack.
