THEREFORE, a word of congratulations, and a reasonable token of appreciation must be sent to the lieutenants and soldiers who successfully planned and carried out the mission.
September 17, 2013 - Unsubstantiated reports of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) minutes of a meeting held on 8thJanuary 2008, moments after the Kiambaa Church in Eldoret was attacked by arsonists and over 30 women and children were burnt to death.
In the shocking minutes, this is what former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, who is also ODM party leader, said concerning the Kiambaa Church incident.
1. The events of New Year’s Day in Kiambaa have been a two edged sword. The effectiveness of the Church burning cannot have been better. Reports streaming in are quite clear; the few Kikuyus who were holding out are leaving in droves…
2. This one was truly ‘shock and awe’, and the PNU diehards now realize that there are sections of the country that mean business. The international community is now awake to the anger of the people.
3. On the flip side, some are now arguing that the killings were callous and brutal, and that we will lose some support from foreign sympathizers…
4. The Chairman (RAILA ODINGA) reminded us that although the brutality is shocking, war is not for those with a queasy stomach. Collateral damage is inevitable and these types of scenes are the most effective to get the world to take the Kenyan situation seriously…
5. THEREFORE, a word of congratulations, and a reasonable token of appreciation must be sent to the lieutenants and soldiers who successfully planned and carried out the mission.
6. For damage control, the Chairman will go on a media offensive and downplay the brutality of the operation and at the same time use it as a propaganda tool to encourage foreign intervention…
7. It is suggested that the Chairman go on an international news forum in this case; local news will not have much impact. Chairman is to do this as a matter of priority, and we shall review at the next meeting.
