Murang'a police get cars to fight crime

THE Murang’a county government on Sunday donated five vehicles to the area security agents to fight crime. Murang'a is in the grip of kidnappings and other cases of insecurity.

The presentation of the vehicles was presided over by county commissioner Kula Hache, Murang’a police commander Naomi Ichami and AP boss Josphat Kinyua and Governor Mwangi Wairia.

Wairia said the vehicles will help police respond quickly to security alerts.

“There has been increased insecurity in Murang’a and due to this the county government has donated five vehicles to the county security agents," Wairia said.

He said the deteriorating security situation will scare off prospective investors.

The governor said the vehicles will be distributed to areas hardest hit by kidnappings and murders.

He said he wants Murang’a to be a secure place to invest and the county government in partnership with the provincial administration will do everything possible to wipe out the criminal gangs.

Kidnappers and other criminals gangs in the county impersonate police to trick victims.

Locals accuse the police of lending the kidnappers their guns and uniforms.

Ichami denied the claims the gangsters who are armed with AK 47 rifles are working with police officers.

“I warn that any officer found colluding with criminals will face the law and I ask the locals to name the officers they suspect are aiding the criminals,” she added.

Hache over 10 people have been kidnapped in what she said are issues related to business rivalry in which businessmen hire gangs to eliminate their competitors.

Recently, an assistant chief in Murang’a South was charged over links to a kidnapping case.

Yesterday a forum of local called hasten investigation into the incidents in order to contain the gang.

“The rising incidents are scaring away investors who would like to invest here,” said the forum chairman Lawrence Memia who is also the Director of Sky line Estate Limited.

He said the incidents are extremely too high saying the security organs should arrest the gang and assure businessmen of their security.
