Kenyan couple in US in critical condition after suspectedmurder-suicide attempt

RoswellDaily Nation

A Kenyan couple is admitted in a US hospital following what the police are calling a “suspected case of attempted murder suicide.”
Police spokesperson Lisa Holland says that officers were called into an apartment complex in the City of Roswell, Georgia on Monday morning after a woman, Emily Mokua, was seriously wounded in the chest following a scuffle with her husband.
“A neighbour called 911 after a 16-year-old boy ran into their house saying there was a problem at his apartment,” said Holland.
When officers arrived, they found the boy’s mother bleeding profusely from a stab wound on the chest while his father, Obadiah Mokua, lay on the floor unconscious.
“They didn’t look too good,” she said.
By the time of filing this story, the woman was undergoing surgery at North Fulton Hospital while the man was being treated for poison ingestion.
A spokesperson at Fulton North hospital told a media briefing Monday evening that the woman was in a “critical but stable condition.”
He, however, did not divulge any information on whether Mr Mokua’s condition had improved.
At the time of the incident, there were three children in the house, ages 16, 6 and 3. They were taken by police to a shelter for abandoned children after the incident.
“They are at the Department of Family and Children Services (DFACS),” said Euphemia Gitau, a sister to Obadiah Mokua.
Ms Gitau told the Nation that the family was shocked by the incident. “We didn’t see this coming. There were no signs of an impending fight,” she said.
Police said they are carrying out further investigation on the incident.
“They have cordoned off the crime scene and would not let us into the apartment, said Mr George Gitau, a brother-in-law to Mr Mokua.
The incident comes barely three months after the body of a Kenyan man was found hanging from a tree at Lafayette Park in Jersey City, New Jersey. Police ruled out foul play saying the 61 year old Jeffrey Kilibwa, committed suicide.
