Pope Francis calls on Kenyans to pray for Uhuru Kenyatta, William Ruto

By Paula Nakaya and Silah Koskei Eldoret, Kenya:
Pope Francis through his representative has called on Kenyans to continue praying for their leaders faced with cases at the International Criminal Court (ICC). The Pope through the President of the Pontificial Concilium from Rome said there is need for the country to continue fostering peace and harmony even as the cases at The Hague continue.
Speaking in Eldoret during the official launch of the Catholic run radio station Upendo FM in Eldoret diocese, Bishop Sarah noted that the Pope was keenly following the trials at the ICC involving the President Uhuru Kenyatta, his deputy William Ruto and radio personality Joshua sang. “The Pope is aware of the cases involving Kenyan leaders and he is praying for peace and harmony to continue prevailing in the country specifically Eldoret where the chaos were rampant,” he said. He added that the trial is a delicate matter that requires both the church and leaders to come together in preaching peace in the region as they await the final verdict by the ICC. Bishop Sarah who is this week also set to open the first Catholic mission hospital at Leseru in the county funded by the Pope, called on the need for the public to give service priority to the poor in the society. “The hospital is a donation from the Pope and is aimed at addressing the plight of the poor in the region and giving them best medical care,” he stated.
