NGO petitions Parliament to outlaw Homosexuality

February 18, 2014 - BY STANLEY NJENGA
A non governmental organization has written a petition to Parliament, to pass a bill to clearly outlaw homosexuality in Kenya,

"We are saddened with the rise of homosexuality which is against our core values and African values. It is to this regard we have chosen to say no to homosexuality in Kenya. The issue of Homosexuality is not a matter of birth but a matter of choice and that is why we have petitioned Parliament to clearly outlaw homosexuality,"said Peter Munga chairman of the NGO, Mandate initiative.

Munga while speaking at Kiambu Hotel yesterday urged the west to stop homosexuality on  the African continent and asked Africans to uphold moral values that will promote and advance the human race.

"The west has said that it will cut aid to African countries that will not embrace homosexuality, what we are saying is that our help as a nation does not come from the east nor from the west but from God. As a nation we have prescribed the very reason of our being in the national anthem who created male and female, Adam and eve and not Adam and Steve for the purpose of procreation.” Munga said

The Kikuyu council of elders have also said  announced that they are  opposed to any attempts to promote same-sex relationships and urged  the government to uphold the law as stated in the constitution and declare homosexuality illegal.

" Kenyans passed the new constitution which is clear on homosexuality. We urge that the government uphold the latter and ignore the West which has decided to revise the moral standard,"said the elders.

The elders chairman Wachira Kiago speaking in Kasarani  said that the Kikuyu Elders are of the opinion that the people of Kenya shall only refer to three guiding principles and covenants which is The Holy Bible, The Constitution, Culture and Traditions.

The chairman said that the Agikuyu in particular considered and continue to consider homosexuality as a taboo which he said is an absolute abomination and totally unacceptable.

"We find it extremely demeaning to even be seen to be trying to justify who we are and what it is that we stand for as a people, but just so you know, any two people who were found to have engaged in this Vice, would be ordered to fight to the death,"said Kiago.

Fr. Joachim Getonga the Chairman of the Kikuyu elders in Murang'a county said that the direction the debate has taken is that  homosexuality and prostitution should be recognized yet they agree against African beliefs and more so  Christian principles.

"We condemn with the strongest terms possible for trying to bring into our country European and American immoralities which are dehumanizing our young generation,"said Getonga.
