Governor plans to drive out Mungiki from Kajiado town

KAJIADO, KENYA: The County Government of Kajiado  is putting measures to ensure members of the outlawed Mungiki sect are moved out of Kitengela town to curb high insecurity in the town.

Kajiado Governor David Nkedianye said on Monday that it was worrying that recently Kitengela and its environs have been on the limelight for insecurity reasons prompting high tension among residents and  scaring investors who might be willing to invest in the county.

He said that the insecurity tension is a result of Mungiki adherent’s activities in the town and urge investors not to fear as security has been beefed up and a crackdown on  Mungiki is  underway.

``We were all shocked by the discovery of mass graves at Empakasi area and existence of men masquerading to be Mungiki extorting money from members of the public, this  has greatly changed the face of Kitengela.”

“We are aware that there is high tension among the residents and I assure you that we are closely working with security agencies to ensure you are  safety,’’ Nkedianye told a professional forum in Kitengela on Monday.

The governor further said  county leaders are closely holding talks with locals who are currently at loggerheads with former mungiki leader Maina Njenga to ensure that they curb any eventualities.

"We will not watch as the peace we have been enjoying in this county is being abused, We as leaders must be on the forefront enlightening the local community to avoid any instances of using weapons and anger and rather use the legal rule of law to address grievances,’’ said Dr Nkedianye.
