Police are investigating three tycoons allegedly planning to fund criminal gangs to cause violence in Mombasa on Monday, county commissioner Nelson Marwa has said. Marwa said police have intelligence reports that link the trio to claims that they are planning to fund chaos and disrupt peace in the area. “We are narrowing down on three individuals in Mombasa who purport to have so much money to fund chaos and disrupt peace.

We are investigating the source of the money,” he said. Marwa added that the tycoons may be involved in criminal activities in the county. “The criminal activities are taking a certain pattern and we are working with security forces to track down individuals involved in funding these criminal activities,” he said.

Addressing the press during a security meeting with local OCPDs at the county headquarters, Marwa assured residents of their security. He warned politicians to desist from making inflammatory speeches that may spark violence. Marwa confirmed police had not received a report on the planned rally in Mombasa. “So far, we have not received a request from any group to hold a meting. Monday is a working day and that should be observed,” said Marwa.
