Bann polythene bags in Nairobi

We demand that the Ministry of Environment, Water and Natural resources, together with the County Council of Nairobi, pass and implement the County by-law banning the use of non-biodegradable polythene bags in Nairobi.

Every Kenyan has the right to a clean and healthy environment. A 2005 report by the United Nations Environmental Program, National Environment Management Agency and the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis, about 100 million plastic bags are freely given to consumers in grocery stores every year and very few of these are recycled or reused. Effective implementation of environmental regulations is key to our success in the fight against polythene bags and its effect on our environment. Proper environmental management is essential for sustainable urban development. Regulation is essential in improving and safeguarding our health and environment. The biggest problem in Nairobi is realising a united front in the fight for the environment and the realisation of a clean and healthy environment for the entire county.
