Al-Shabaab Claim Mandera Attack; Marehan Gunmen Identified As Locals

quarryThe Somali terror group has claimed responsibility of the Mandera terror attack on the early morning hours of Tuesday 7th of July 2015.

The Harakat Al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen Movement, al-Qaeda’s branch in Somalia continues to pose a significant threat to the East African region.

Gunmen recruited from the Marehan tribe in Mandera conducted attacks targeting quarry workers sleeping in a compound at the livestock market outside Mandera town, the headquarters of Mandera County of Kenya.

The gunmen opened fire, hurled improvised explosive devices (molotov cocktails) and grenades at the sleeping quarry workers.

13 men and a woman were killed while 12 other people were injured. Those injured have been airlifted by emergency services for specialized medical treatment.

14 people died in the Mandera attack. Most of the dead were unarmed quarry workers. The woman killed in the attack was the landlady. She was shot dead when she confronted the terrorists.
