I Will Work With Uhuru, Obama Tells Raila Odinga

Barack Obama told Raila Odinga that the United States will work with Uhuru Kenyatta’s government even though he will keep listening to opposition leaders.

Obama however disclosed that the opposition wanted the United States to strongly  press the government on some issues which the opposition feel are being neglected.

“I told the opposition that Kenya has a democratically elected government and US will work with it,” said Obama while addressing civil society leaders at Kenyatta University.

He said that one of the opposition leaders had requested the Obama administration to go hard on Uhuru’s government.

“I told him.. I will not mention the name… that when you were in government, you told the USA to stop interfering with Kenya affairs,” said Obama.

Obama further said that everybody wants the United States to be involved when they are not in power but when they are in power,they don’t want USA to be involved.

The opposition leaders that met Obama were; Raila Odinga, Martha Karau, Moses Wetangula and Kalonzo Musyoka.

“We talked about issues that we would like for him to look at and we presented him with our memorandum,” Kalonzo Musyoka said about the meeting.
