Kenyan man stabs wife to death in Germany

Nelson Njunge, a Kenyan living in Germany has been identified as the prime suspect in the death of his wife who was found dead.

It is alleged that Belinda Njunge was stabbed to death in a case that has left Kenyans living Germany in shock.

It has also emerged that the police have identified Nelson Njunge by another name, Ismail, and now risks being charged with impersonation if found guilty. Investigations on his true identity are ongoing.

Belinda, 30, a Kenyan woman and mother of two was found lying lifeless in the living room with her body full of stab wounds on July 30.

According to report from German police, they were called in at around 8am on July 30 morning by neighbours who heard screams of the Kenyan woman from the fifth floor of the apartment building in Wiesenhügel in the city of Erfurt located in central Germany.

 When police and paramedics arrived at the scene, they found blood in the balcony of the house. The deceased is said to had lost too much blood. The medics pronounced her dead.

The man was arrested at the scene of the crime and brought before a custodial judge on the same day.

The two had been living together as a couple and even working together as business partners. The couple launched a calling service for Kenyans to call home at cheaper rates.

Their story was covered last year by the website, Mkenya Ujerumani, immediately after the launch. They had registered their company in Jena as Cosmo-Afropolitan e.K, which last year came up with affordable VoIP calls.

Speaking to The Nairobian, Mickie Ojijo of Kenya Development Associates-Germany said he had been informed by authorities that the man had confessed to the killing.

“I spoke to the State lawyer assigned the case and he said he will be visiting Nelson tomorrow for details. As per the information I have, he confessed. The knife used is with the police as part of the exhibits,” said Ojijo.

Earlier reports indicated that according to the prosecutor, Nelson confessed to the police that he and Belinda had been having problems in their relationship for the last couple of months. The couple had been living in the building with their children for a long time and had been together for the past six years, but were not married.

Belinda leaves behind two sons aged two and six. It is not clear whether the suspect is the father of the children.

The two children were taken in by the Children’s Welfare Services. Ojijo told The Nairobian that he was informed the man’s mother was due to fly in from the US where she lives.

“The charges could be reduced to between two and six years in prison,” said Ojijo.
