Kikuyu Town Faces Massive Demolition As The Southern Bypass Approaches

The Nairobi Southern Bypass is the last bypass under construction and also the widest.It features a dual carriageway with additional service lanes and is expected to ease the transportation crisis on Uhuru Highway due to the heavy commercial vehicles (HCV) on the road. It will offer an alternative path for this and other drivers who wish to access Nakuru highway without entering the city. It spans from Likoni Road on Mombasa Road at Ole Sereni Hotel to Kikuyu. Despite the occasional land acquisition that occurs on many road projects in the country, this project has managed to shake off these are move ahead. The contractor is moving ahead with the other sections and works on the ground are impressive.

A Kenyan man who was Barrow County restaurant owner is accused of killing his mother-in-law and then turning the gun on himself, authorities say.

Jennifer Muriu called 911 Monday night to report that her husband had fired a gun inside the couple’s Bethlehem home, said Barrow County Sheriff’s Lt. Matt Guthas.

“Mrs. Muriu did not know, however, if anyone had been hurt by the shooting,” Guthas said Tuesday in an emailed statement. “Also inside the residence at the time was a 66-year old-female, Diana Freeman, Jennifer’s mother.”

Free trade zone to be set up in Mombasa by 2015

The government plans to develop a Free Trade Zone in Mombasa in the next two years, a move expected to establish the country as a regional trade power-house.

The Ministry of Industrialisation and Enterprise Development on Friday began the search for consultants to carry out a feasibility study on the Free Trade Zone (FTZ) which should be ready by the end of 2015.

“I am optimistic that this project will be up and running in less than 24 months,” said Industrialisation and Enterprise cabinet secretary, Mr Adan Mohamed.

A former Liberal Democrat minister, Sarah Teather, has criticised a Home Office “go home or face arrest” mobile billboard advertising campaign as “nothing less than straightforward intimidation”.
Teather, who accused ministers of “cranking up the anti-migrant rhetoric”, is MP for Brent Central, in one of six London boroughs where the week-long pilot scheme to encourage illegal migrants to leave Britain is taking place this week.
The advertising vans will also show residents how many illegal migrants have recently been arrested in their local area and carry a text number for overstayers to use to arrange their return home.

Friday July 26, 2013 – Kenya’s embassy in Washington says it is not aware of the forum this weekend in Dallas, Texas, which is to be attended by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and 12 CORD Governors.

Speaking to a journalist of one local TV on Friday, acting Kenyan envoy to Washington Jean Njeri Kamau, said the embassy was not aware of any meeting to be attended by Governors from Kenya.

“We therefore have no comment on the matter,” Ms Kamau said.

Raila is set to lead a team of CORD Governors to a meeting organized by the Network for Development of Youth in partnership with Summers Dodge International Group.

However, the said forum has raised eyebrows in some quarters where many have whispered of a wider plan by the CORD leader of toppling the Jubilee administration.

According to a Kenyan living in Atlanta, Georgia, who requested anonymity, it sounds so peculiar that no Governors from other political parties were attending the meeting.

“Why couldn’t they hold the seminar in Kenya and invite the facilitators? Isn’t that more cost effective?” The resident said.

Other reports indicated that the planned meeting by CORD leader is on how to topple President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Government with the assistance of the United States and Britain.

KENYA: The Jubilee government launched a bare-knuckled attack on former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Thursday, sensationally claiming he had orchestrated the heckling of its leaders at a public forum in Kisii.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday skipped the mass funeral service at Gusii Stadium for students killed in a road accident, where Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i was heckled and forced to cut short the President’s condolence message.

On Thursday, government spokesman Muthui Kariuki explained that the President skipped the event because of pressing national issues, but added the telling rider that his absence saved him the embarrassment.
In a scathing attack, Kariuki claimed the “retired Prime Minister” had refused to surrender six government vehicles that had been allocated to him when he served in the coalition government.
“He’s forever moaning that the government is not giving him recognition yet he has refused to return six government vehicles, has gone on and bought an illegal siren and is forever driving all over town using the wrong lanes,” charged the official.

Police warn residents against city firm buses

Police have warned commuters against travelling in certain buses in Nairobi, saying they risked being robbed.

Inspector-General of Police David Kimaiyo said a number of buses belonging to Citi Hoppa had been carjacked and the drivers and conductors were suspected of colluding with the gangsters.

He said a bus belonging to the firm was carjacked in Nairobi every day and the management had refused to cooperate with police.

Property worth millions destroyed as Lang’ata houses demolished

Property worth millions of shillings was on Saturday destroyed after the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure bulldozers flattened houses in Lang’ata’s Uzima gardens.

According to the Ministry’s official these homes stood in the way of the southern bypass whose construction is underway and they had to be removed to pave way for the completion of the project.

A devastated home owner, Mr Titus Mukiam lamented that they were not issued with any legal notices to vacate the road reserve, claims that the ministry has refuted.

Mr Charles Njogu corporate manager Kenya National Highway Authority said, “These houses have been marked for demolition and these residents know that their houses should not be on the Road reserve.”

Nigeria: How Woman Delivered Monster in Church, Benin City — Like people always say, "wonders shall never end". Benin City residents were shocked on Tuesday when a pregnant woman, currently at large, was delivered of a creature that resembled a horse during a prayer session at the World Libration Ministry, Benin City.

MPs and senators from Rift Valley have accused former Prime Minister Raila Odinga of capitalising on the on-going teachers strike to campaign for the rejection of the VAT Bill.

The legislators claimed the campaign is part of Raila's plan to sabotage the Jubilee government promises to Kenyans. The leaders wondered why Raila failed to fulfill the 1997 teachers agreement in the 10 years he was in government, especially when he was a co-principal between 2008-2012.

Facebook And Microsoft Reveal Spying Requests

Details of tens of thousands of queries by US officials emerge after the firms strike a deal with security authorities. 

Facebook and Microsoft have revealed that US government agencies made tens of thousands of requests for user data in the second half of last year.

The firms were able to release the information after reaching a deal about disclosures with US national security authorities.
