One evening in 2005, George Maingi Kinoti lay helpless in the middle of Jogoo Road, Nairobi, writhing in pain after gangsters sprayed him with bullets and left him for the dead.

On the fateful day, Mr Kinoti was driving alone when he bumped into a five-man gang that was attempting to carjack a motorist.

With no time to call for back-up, and a gun in hand, he confronted two of the gangsters unaware there were others following in a different car.

After the shooting, he spent two months, including days in a coma, at the Armed Forces Memorial Hospital as it was known at the time.

Today, the detective has metal plates in his legs because some of his bones were shattered.

Uncertainty has gripped the Kenyan sporting world after Pevans East Africa Limited, the company that owns online betting firm SportPesa, reiterated its threat to terminate all existing financial sponsorship agreements with clubs and federations.

The August and October election have demonstrated one thing about Kenya: It has finally evolved into a country of two major political formations unlike in the early years of multi-partyism when there was a plethora of ethnic-based parties.

That means Jubilee and Nasa will be the political formations to watch in 2018. 

It is likely that Jubilee will retain the same leadership and composition in the coming year, but it will have to contend with the occasional and inevitable complaint or dissent.

However, Nasa will most likely evolve into a hydra-headed creature, with each head pulling away from the others.

Details of a secret power sharing deal between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Kanu chairman Gideon Moi can be revealed today.

As part of the hitherto closely guarded deal, the Baringo senator handed President Kenyatta names of potential nominees to the Cabinet on Thursday last week, further stoking tensions within the Jubilee coalition as Deputy President William Ruto grows increasingly jittery over the role of Mr Moi in government.

An impeccable source at the senator’s office confided to Nation that Mr Kiprono Kittony, the chairman of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), and Kanu Secretary-General Nick Salat are among those whose names are with the President.

In the larger deal, Mr Moi wants President Kenyatta to set aside a total of six slots in the executive, two in the Cabinet and four for principal secretaries in return for Kanu’s support for his re-election in the August 8 and October 26 presidential elections.

A Texas-based political media company that has worked for Donald Trump generated online attack campaigns against Raila Odinga in the run-up to the August presidential vote, a new report finds.

Harris Media, described in the report as “a far-right American digital media company,” is linked to two anonymous sites: TheReal Raila and Uhuru for Us, states the report issued by London-based Privacy International, which says it is committed to fighting for privacy rights worldwide.

Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has criticised members of Nairobi County Assembly over plans to pass a motion outlawing commercial sex work.

The senator termed the move impulsive and unfair to the ‘poor’ commercial sex workers whom she said depend on the trade for survival.
