14 International Criminal Court(ICC) witnesses have recanted their evidence against president Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto.
Although the court has been saying there are no witnesses who have refused to testify before the three Kenyans suspects, sources close to the court say the court is currently in panic mode following an increasing trend of witnesses refusing to testify against the two Kenyan leaders.
The source said the most affected person is ICC Chief Prosecutor Fatou Besouda who has been wailing at his office following the rate at which witnesses have been dropping their evidences.
On Wednesday this week, a witness dropped out in the case against Deputy President William Ruto, saying he will not falsely testify against an innocent man.
Majority of witnesses who have recanted their evidence have been saying they were initially bribed and coached by ICC operatives, to testify falsely against President Uhuru and his Deputy William Ruto.
The source said it is a matter of time before “all witnesses” recant their evidences even before Uhuru and Ruto’s trials begin later this year.
President Uhuru, his Deputy Ruto and radio presenter Joshua Sang have been indicted by the ICC court in connection with 2007-08 Post Election Violence and their trials commence later this year.
