Saturday May 11, 2013 - Uhuru/Ruto’s cabinet nominee to the Health Docket Mr. James Macharia yesterday shocked the Parliamentary Committee on Appointment when he rooted that he will propose for his salary to be slashed if he is approved for the job.
Macharia who was the Group Managing Director of NIC Bank told the vetting committee that he would be comfortable with a small pay because his passion was not in money but in serving the people of Kenya.
He noted that he accepted the nomination not because of the cash price that comes with the position, but the rare chance it has in giving back to the community in what he described as “a chance of lifetime”.
This shocked South Mugirango MP Manson Nyamweya who wondered how Macharia intends to sustain his lifestyle with slashed salary.
In his response, Macharia noted that he was not that poor although he was still considering changing his lifestyle to fit into his new pay slip.
