UK arming Rebel Groups in Kenya

Daily News

House of Common MPs have accused the British Government of arming rebel Groups in Africa including Al-Shabaab. The MPs raised concerns regarding the weaponry that in the last 15 months has already been exported to East Africa.

The British government exported over 44,000 guns to East Africa, South Africa and Egypt in that period according to the UK weaponry statistics. This huge number of deadly weapons include 2,536 pistols, 11,000 rifles and a whopping 30,000 assault rifles whose destination was majorly East Africa.

The MPs alleged that this huge exportation of such deadly weapons can form sufficient evidence that the UK Government may be arming the rebel groups to carry out their attacks and cause terror in various parts of the region.

Going by this huge exportation of deadly weapons disregarding the fact that there is no country which is at war in the destination region, the MPs said they will summon the Defence Minister to give an explanation and reasons of why this was done.

Al-Shabaab have of late carried out terror attacks leaving hundreds of people dead and injured among them being Mpeketoni attacks where they claimed responsibility and left more than 62 people dead.
