President Uhuru Kenyatta has made a major Cabinet reshuffle in what he termed as re-organization of the government to ensure effective and efficient service delivery.
In the new-look Cabinet, several Cabinet Secretaries have been sent home and new-comers brought on board as well as the number of Ministries increased from the current 19 to 20.
Former Laikipia East Member of Parliament Mwangi Kiunjuri has been nominated the CS for Devolution and Planning taking over from Ms Anne Waiguru who resigned last weekend citing health concerns.
Kericho Senator Charles Keter has also made it to the Cabinet after the Head of State nominated his as the CS for Energy to take over from Davis Chirchir who was suspended eight months ago over corruption allegations.
The Google Sub-Saharan Africa Ambassador and Country Manager for Kenya Joe Mucheru has been nominated as the Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) taking over from Fred Matiang’i who now becomes the CS for Education.
Matiang’i replaces Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi who heads to the Ministry of Lands as the CS.
Kenya Seed Company Managing Director Willy Bett has been nominated the CS for Agriculture replacing Felix Koskei who was suspended eight months ago over graft allegations.
Malindi MP Dan Kazungu also makes it to the Cabinet after President Kenyatta nominated him as the CS for Mining effectively replacing Najib Balala who has been moved to the Ministry of Tourism in the same Capacity.
Nairobi Hospital’s Chief executive Officer Dr. Cleophas Mailu has been nominated as the Cabinet Secretary for Health, replacing Dr. James Macharia who has since been moved to Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.
Former Agriculture Principal Secretary Sicily Kariuki has been nominated as the Head of Public Service replacing Joseph Kinyua who has not been assigned any new duty for now.
Phylis Kandie, the CS for East African Affairs has been moved to the Ministry of Labour and Social Services effectively replacing Kambi Kazungu who was also suspended eight months ago over graft allegations.
Major Gen. (Rtd.) Joseph Nkaissery (Interior), Rachel Omamo (Defense), Ambassador Amina Mohamed (Foreign Affairs), Adan Mohamed (Industrialization), Eugene Wamalwa (Water and Irrigation), Henry Rotich (Treasury), Hassan Wario (Sports) and Judy Wakhungu (Environment) have retained their Ministries.
Interior PS Monica Juma, who was rejected by National Assembly as the Secretary to the Cabinet nominee, has been moved to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the same capacity.
She takes over from Karanja Kibicho, who moves from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as PS to Ministry of Interior in the same capacity.
President Kenyatta says the move will spur growth and economic development.
