On a baking hot day at the Hungaroring circuit, the principals fought out an enthralling strategic battle, and Hamilton triumphed after managing his tyres shrewdly and pulling off some crucial overtaking manoeuvres.

Kimi Raikkonen's tyre strategy also paid off as he finished second, having started sixth on the grid, and he held off drivers' championship leader Sebastian Vettel, who endured a somewhat frustrating afternoon.
