A man who is accused of killing a pastor on Valentine’s Day for “misadvising” his wife to leave him has been charged with murder.
Mr Elijah Karuri Ndibaru was charged at the High Court in Nakuru yesterday but was not required to plead to the charges to allow for an examination of his mental status.
Lady Justice Roselyn Wendoh ordered that he be taken to the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital for the test.
Mr Karuri reportedly ambushed Pastor Peter Waweru Muchiri on a footpath and confronted him for interfering in his marriage saying his wife left after the pastor allegedly advised her to flee her matrimonial home because her husband was mentally unwell.

He is said to have killed the Kenya Assemblies of God Church leader at Dri village in Maela, Naivasha sub-county, on February 14.
Mr Karuri appeared in court while heavily bandaged on his right eye.
He told the judge that he was injured by the pastor’s brother.
Lady Justice Wendoh ordered that he be taken for further treatment of the injury.
The suspect will be remanded at the Nakuru G.K. Prison until Monday when he will be required to answer to the charges.
MENTAL ASSESSMENT
In a separate case, Mr Joseph Ndung’u Njenga and Mr John Koigi were charged with murder.
They were accused of killing Mr Joseph Kinuthia Gathecha at Githunguri in Nyandarua County. They were ordered to undergo mental assessment before pleading to the charges.
