Two Kitui politicians have affirmed that the county will vote for President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2017.
This was after residents reaped big from Uhuru's just concluded tour of the region.
Mwingi Central MP Joe Mutambo and politician Kennedy Ngumbau said on Monday that Kitui gained in terms of education, health, water and roads.
They noted that the projects launched and pledged by Uhuru will improve the socioeconomic welfare of locals.
At the weekend, the President and his deputy, William Ruto, went on a three-day tour of Machakos, Makueni and Kitui counties.
The vote hunting foray targeted over 300,000 residents, as the Jubilee leaders sought to establish development projects in Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka's home turf.
Mutambu and Ngumbau said that the crowds that welcomed Uhuru and Ruto in Mwingi and Kitui town were a clear statement that the Jubilee administration was popular.
"Residents support Uhuru Kenyatta and will vote him back next year," Mutambu said.
He said Kitui leaders who had claimed that Uhuru would be heckled and given a cold shoulder during the tour were proven wrong.
In a last minute move, Kalonzo shelved plans to accompany Uhuru during the tour as he had received no invitation.
A source close to Kalonzo said the Wiper leader wanted "to gag" the President from discrediting him before supporters by shadowing the tour.
Ngumbau, an aspirant of Kitui governor's seat in 2013, said residents were tired of political exclusion.
“Residents have realised that if they continue staying out of government they will not enjoy development,” said Ngumbau.
He said residents were interested in pragmatic politics of socioeconomic growth but not opposition politics that delivers no development.
During his tour, Uhuru launched the Sh2.2 billion phase two of the Masinga-Kitui pipeline project, officially opened the Nuu Technical and Vocational training College.
He officially opened the Mwingi KMTC campus and launched the Sh400 million medical equipment at the Mwingi Level four hospital.
The President said he will be back in Kitui soon to commission the tarmacking of Kibwezi-Kitui-Mwingi-Isiolo road.
