Government gives UNHCR three months ultimatum to relocate refugees from Daadab

Kenya: The Government has given the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) three months to relocate the Dadaab refugee camp from Kenya to Somalia.

Speaking in Nyeri today, Deputy President William Ruto disclosed that the government had held discussions with the UNHCR and asked them to relocate the camp that currently houses more that 600,000 refugees of Saomali origin back to Somalia.

He said: “We have asked the UNHCR to relocate the refugees in three months failure to which we shall relocate them ourselves, adding “the way America changed after 9/11 is the way Kenya will change after Garissa.”

The DP at the same time announced that building of the 700 kilometre wall  on the Kenya /Somalia border faaaaarom Mandera to Kiunga has began  to keep out  the Al Shabab elements from infiltrating the county from Somalia.
 
Mr. Ruto warned terrorists and their collaborators that their time was up adding  that the government will apply all measures and  security apparatus at its disposal to secure the country.

He said: “We must secure this country at whatever cost, even if we loose business with Somalia so be it, adding, “all those who are collaborating with Al Shabab will have their businesses closed.”

Saying politics should not be introduced in security matters, the DP asked all Kenyan leaders irrespective of their political affiliation to support government’s efforts in securing the country.
 
Mr. Ruto said all Kenyans must stand up to be counted on this matter so that the country can be secured adding,  “No politics, no games, no half measures   should apply as the death of the 147 students must touch all Kenyans.”

The Deputy President at the same time asked all leaders in the country to support government’s efforts in fighting terrorism saying all Kenyans must stand up to be counted in the war against the Al Shabab and other terror groups.

Similar sentiments were expressed by several Members of Parliament who accompanied him  who supported  that all refugees  be relocated to Somalia.

The leaders led by governor Nderitu Gachagua and Senator Mutahi Kagwe and 15 MPs urged the government to relocate the refugee camp and rein in on Al Shaba and its cohorts.

Mr. Kagwe urged the government to use maximum force when dealing with the terrorists including shooting them.

The MPs urged muslim leaders to assist the government in arresting the collaborators of Al Shabab within their communities.

The MPs included area MP Kabando wa Kabando, Mithika Linturi, Philip Rotino, Ndungu Gethinji, Mary Wamboi, Sabina Chege, Moses Kuria, Joyce Emanikor, Peter Weru, Priscilla Nyokabi, Jogn Kihagi, Njogu Barua, Wachira Karani andJohn Kiragu.

The MPs asked Kenyans to be vigilant and through Nyumba Kumi initaitiev report criminals to the authority.

The MPs also criticized the government when it is under attack saying they were unpatriotic.

Mr. Kagwe said : “ the Intention of terrorists is to kill so there is no need for us to treat them with kids gloves, we should kill them.”

Mr. Weru said the terrorists were killing using the name of Islam so its upon leadrs of the community to flush out those characters.
