A dream doesn't become reality through magic. It takes sweat, determination and hard work.

Pay for governors was decided at the ballot- Otherwise, pack your bagsand go.

Kenya should should not, and shall never be held hostage by a few greedy people who are just after lining their pockets. No one asked or your services in the first place, you offered them for free or in a camouflaged manner. Shame on you.

If newly-elected governors, senators, MPs and county assembly representatives are not satisfied with their salaries and benefits, they are at liberty to quit and look for better-paying jobs elsewhere.

It is unacceptable that the new representatives should start agitating for higher pay even before they have put in an honest day’s work.

The reasons they offer to back their demands are absurd and should not be given a moment’s consideration.

They essentially say that the pay on offer is not commensurate with their responsibilities and needs.

Some also say they left better-paying jobs to seek elective office. Well, the reality is that at the time they opted to apply for employment at the General Election, they knew full well the pay that came with the jobs they were seeking.

Our elected leaders were not head-hunted or coerced into taking these jobs, but freely volunteered themselves while very aware of the responsibilities and burdens of elective office.

Nowhere does somebody take up a job and then only on receiving the appointment letter start whining that the pay is too little before even starting work. If one gets a job offer but the pay does not match expectations, the logical cause of action is to reject the appointment.

One cannot under any circumstances start threatening or blackmailing the employer, for then the offer will be swiftly withdrawn.

The Salaries and Remuneration Commission must, on behalf of all Kenyans, tell the elected leaders that their demands are illegal, immoral and out of order.

Those who feel that they cannot live on the packages set out are free to quit and make space for those who understand that leadership is a calling and a service.
