Moses Wetangula was this evening evicted from a Mombasa bound Kenya Airways flight after he failed to show the crew his national identification card. The flight was delayed for over an hour as Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi and Speaker of the Kenya Senate Ekwee Ethuro tried to talk to the crew but to no avail.
There was a drama yesterday evening at JKIA after unruly highly intoxicated Moses Wetangula caused a massive security breach after he engaged airport and airline officials in a standoff for 30 minutes after he refused to produce any identification documents or to be searched.
The drunk Senator who was accompanied by a university girl who also doubles as his publicist and lover refused to be searched by the security officials saying hes a senior leader in this country, the same rank with uhuru kenyatta and if uhuru kenyatta cant be searched at the airport , neither himself can allow those “poverty stricken” police to search him. When asked by Kenya Airways employees to produce identification documents as its the standard procedure , he retorted ” wewe maskini mjinga unajua mimi ni nani katika hii nchi? Ukicheza na mimi nitakuweka ndani pamoja na watu wenu!!” he then proceeded to board the aircraft without being screened together with his girlfriend. Shaken junior officers then alerted their bosses who came and ejected wetangula and his girlfriend from the aircraft. His girlfriend who is known as Ann Wangari was soo drunk that she blacked out when they were ejected from the plane and had to be helped to stand on her feet. Senate Speaker Hon Ekwe Ethuro and around 20 senators intervened and Mr Wetangula and his lover were allowed in after 1hr delay but with a warning, next time come with ID or passport or you will not be allowed to board
According to Phillip Etale, a CORD communication official, Wetangula showed his Kenya Airways Frequent Flier Platinum card but the crew would not budge. Speaker Muturi and Ethuro vowed not to continue with the journey unless Wetangula is cleared. Senator Wetangula said that his national ID was ina bag enroute to Mombasa with his driver. It is not yet clear if there has been a resolution as yet.
In a similar incident last week,Igembe MP Dr. Kilemi Mwiria was also ejected from a KQ flight to Mombasa after he failed to produce a Kenyan ID.
