How to manage long distance relationships

managing long distance relationshipsBy Wesley Kipng'enoh (@wess_kipp)
It is difficult, but possible
Long distance relationships are tricky, very tricky. Those who’ve been there can attest to that at the High Court; in the bathroom and possibly in front of St Peters in heaven. They will tell you that its stressful and demanding: They just don’t need commitments, NO, they need more than that.
However difficult it may seem to manage it, it's possible and many relationships have walked right through it and made it. Those who may be swimming in such relationships, well, this could possibly help, to manage it.

Learn to appreciate the distance
Well, getting that feeling that your girl is miles away most of the time around the year is not easy. However, learn to appreciate the distance and don’t argue over some silly things. That way, you learn to accept that yes, the distance is there, but love beats it.
It’s good stay positive
Those who have seen a long distance relationship come through can tell you that positivity goes a long way, unless of course you are simply messing around with your partner. The nostalgia, the loneliness of this mile-apart relationship, demands more. Otherwise, you will get to a breaking point and part ways. Don’t dwell on some petty negative perspectives, unless you no longer love your partner.
Support each other
You should be there when your partner needs you.  Even if you can't be there physically, be available to talk on the phone or chat, bottom line, be there when he/ she needs you. As a ‘shareholder’, you are in charge of providing emotional support, even when it’s obviously inconvenient. You may not be together physically, but you've made an emotional commitment.
Visit each other frequently
Do this often, because, sometimes talk isn’t enough. Your girl needs to feel your physical presence.  For the ladies, visit your guy, and surprise him once in a while. That way, you keep your relationship interesting.  So, take turns to visit one another, it’s a good thing, showing that both of you are actually committed
You’ve got to trust each other
Trust: don’t mess around with it. It is what sustains any relationship. So when your girl who stays in Mombasa says she is going for a  girls’ night-out, you have no choice brother, you can choose to trust her or explode from baseless tension. In fact, later ask her how the night went; this way, she even will get embarrassed to cheat on you.
Provide Personal Comfort
Your girlfriend will whine to you about her boss, how bad her day was. Hey listen to her, and tells her its just a bad day not a bad life. She needs to hear that. For the ladies, he is stressed then you better do something: Make him talk about it, since it’s the best thing you can do to him given the distance barrier
Plan for the Future
Being visionary is no doubt part of the solution. Talk to each other about plans to possibly eliminate the distance between the two of you. This way, you can easily bear with that haunting distance
Communication is Key
Phone calls; chatting on phone or online is important.  Twice or once a day, get away from your busy life and text him: That is a gesture, that indeed despite the distance, you have each other in mind.
Call for a goodnight texts, send photos, complement each other, and laugh about it. When you a problem, please don’t take it out on him, instead, talk to him about it. Men have this communication problem, and if you inherently have it, the long distance relationship, may not really be your thing.
