Studying media has been an eye opener and produced some
amazing opportunities; although I have only been on this course for less than a
year, I have had the humbling opportunity to meet and interview great political
figures. My most amazing opportunity came in the light of a college and job
fair for aspiring students and those who want to kick start their career. Many
of you are aware of Boris Johnson’s amazing character, witty persona and easy
going take on life, I was lucky enough to experience this first had through
interviewing him.
The fair in which I and Boris met was to offer opportunities for young people, my initial role in this was to supply a helping hand for my college through which I had to publicise the types of courses we specialise in and to gain more students for next year’s entry. During my time here I decided to seize the opportunity to utilize my interviewing skills by asking students and young people a series of questions regarding education.

Due to the overcrowding of the fair, movement was restricted
therefore setting a mood of aggravation – until, that is, people were aware of
Boris Johnson's arrival. Once I was aware of this, it felt as though I had
butterflies in my stomach because I knew an interview with him was what I
wanted. In realising this I knew that my only chance was to follow him as
though a sheep would follow his shepherd. A lot of shoulders brushed, looks
received and animosity felt, however I got there in the end- the microphone
firmly placed in my hand as I tried to control my hand from shaking but I got
there. Within the few seconds of this happening I placed the microphone firmly
In line with his mouth and with all the nerves came out a bold joke in which
Boris eagerly laughed. An amazing feeling it was as I was able to grab his
attention- as soon as I realised this I took a quick glimpse around – and
whether or not is was the adrenaline rush or not- it seemed as though all the
disorder around me was suddenly in order whilst everyone was fixated on this
momentous moment of when Boris and I acknowledged each other.
As I soon as I bought myself back to reality, I realised
time was of the essence in which Boris had also reminded me. As I impudently
stared him straight in the eye, outshot my question ‘how important is university
for students today’ he then replied with ‘university is very important, and
it’s a wonderful thing but it doesn’t have to be the only way’ he also added a
sense of charisma and charm which is what I expected of him. With this we then
parted, caught in the moment, I then realised what I had accomplished by going
out and seizing the opportunity. I also came to realise that like one another,
he is very human, and he was able to find time in his busy schedule to devote
to the youth of today. I can truly say I am very honoured to have had the
opportunity. It goes without saying that fortune favours the brave, and in this
instant I can truly say it favoured me.
