It was joy and jubilation at Mamumbu village Murang’a East sub-county when one family re-united with a relative who survived a terror attack in Wajir two weeks ago.

Rowland Kang’ethe, a businessman in Wajir town, was attacked by unknown people as he walked home on November 19 and shot four times and left for the dead.

He sustained serious injuries and was later transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit for two weeks.

However, after recovering from the gunshot wounds and discharged, the father of five was detained at the hospital after he failed to clear his medical bill of Sh115,000.

He slept on the floor at the hospital for lack of means to settle the bill. His plight, however, attracted the attention of President Uhuru Kenyatta after the story was aired on Kameme FM and the President e offered to clear his bill.

Kang’ethe said the gunman also shot dead one of his friends who ran a pharmacy shop in Wajir. He said the shooting has left him with serious injuries that could affect his ability to operate his business. Kang’ethe says he is afraid of going back to Wajir in case a similar incident befalls him.

“I am afraid to go back to Wajir because I don’t know the intention of the people who shot me and killed my friend or even who they were,” he said.
