IEBC officer who tried to RIG ELECTIONS in KITUI arraigned in court

Tuesday, the 5th of March 2013 - Zebedee Muthui the polling clerk who was on Monday arrested by police officers for handing more than a one ballot paper to a voter has today been arraigned before court.

The incident that happened at a polling station Kitui Central was first revealed by the CEO of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) James Oswago at a press briefing on Monday.

“The commission has ordered for the arrest of one polling clerk in Kitui Central for issuing more than one ballot paper to a voter,” he said.

The court set the case for hearing on the 29th of March.

Oswago at the time also admitted that there had been a separate incident in Kitutu Chache where voters complained that their ballot papers had not been stamped by the IEBC.

The voting process in Kitui East constituency meanwhile was dogged by damaged ballot papers but Oswago said his officers had worked to resolve the problem;

“IEBC officers are making efforts to have them replaced since the law permits the commission to use back up boxes,” Oswago said.
