Want away Barcelona star might be heading to Arsenal.

Monday, March 18, 2013 -

Want away Barcelona shot stopper Victor Valdes has put the north London club on red alert after he declined to sign a new deal at the Camp Nou and Arsenal have emerged as his most likely destination.

According to the Daily Star the Spaniard has already told Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger that he wants to move to north London.

Arsenal are looking for a proven goalkeeper to provide competition for Wojciech Szczesny, and the 31-year-old could be that man.

Valdes told Barcelona earlier this season that he would not be signing an extension to his contract, which expires in the summer of 2014.

The report claims Wenger is contemplating over an £8.5million bid for the Spain international as he looks for a more experienced custodian.

Szczesny was the unrivaled number one at Emirates Stadium up until last week when he was dropped for the Champions League last 16 second leg clash with Bayern Munich.

Lukasz Fabianski came in for that game at the Allianz Arena and was impressive in Arsenal’s 2-0 win, although they ultimately went out on away goals.

Fabianski kept his place for the trip to Swansea City on Saturday to make his first Premier League appearance in two years where he kept another clean sheet in their 2-0 win.

However, reports suggest that Wenger doesn’t see either of them as trustworthy enough to hold the number one jersey at Arsenal.

Should Valdes decide to join Arsenal, he would join compatriots and Spain teammates Santi Cazorla and Nacho Monreal who joined the club this season from Malaga.
