MORE DETAILS emerge on why the IEBC‘s provisional results SYSTEM FAILED

Thursday, the 7^th of March 2013 - The Kenyans DAILY POST has spoken to sources that had an intimate knowledge of the IEBC’s system for relaying provisional results and has unearthed possible reasons why the system collapsed.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source said that the IEBC had been sloppy in its approach to relaying the provisional results by ignoring a lot of basic details such as making sure that the phones supplied early or that the log-in details on them work.

“By that time, I had already finished tallying the presidential results for my station and when I tried using the user-name and password I was issued with, it did not work, despite trying it five times,” said the source.

The source said that the failure of the phones made it impossible for the clerks to relay their vote count to the returning officer in charge of the constituency;

“Other than sending the figures, we were supposed to use the phones to update the returning officer of the number of votes cast at regular intervals, but this was not possible,” added the source.

The source also spilled the beans on why the Electronic Voter Identification Devices failed in some of the polling stations, saying that although new, some of the kits did not have enough charge on them and the clerks had been forced to use their own cables to charge them;

“At my station, we had to improvise and clerks who live nearby brought electrical extension cords which we used to keep the machines running,” revealed the source.
