The
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has demanded the full implementation
of the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission report despite it
adversely mentioning party members.
Fielding questions
from journalists after a parliamentary group meeting attended by 70
members of the Senate and the National Assembly, deputy Minority Leader
Jakoyo Midiwo said the TJRC report should be tabled in the House for
debate and be implemented.
"We want full implementation of the TJRC report with full participation of Parliament," said Mr Midiwo.
"Anybody
whether big or small who is implicated in the report should face full
force of the law so that justice can be done to those affected."
Mr
Midiwo, however, said ODM was waiting to see the report and peruse it
before issuing a comprehensive statement on way forward.
ODM party leader Raila Odinga chaired the PG at Orange House, Nairobi.
President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto and former President Moi are among those named in the report.
More
than 30 sitting and former MPs or senators are among prominent
personalities facing fresh prosecutions following allegations that they
were behind the 2007/08 post election violence.
Many others will also be investigated or prosecuted in connection with serious crimes, including assassinations, theft of public land and incitement to violence.
ODM
leaders Henry Kosgei, Chris Obure, William Ole Ntimama, Alfred
Khangati, Joseph Nkaissery, Elizabeth Ongoro and Sally Kosgei are among
those named in the report that was handed over to President Kenyatta on
Tuesday.
President Kenyatta and Mr Ruto, feature in the
report over claims that they masterminded the 2007 poll chaos that led
to the killing of 1,133 people.
The two were, however, spared any action because they are facing the same charges at the International Criminal Court.
Mining Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala is accused of inciting and funding violence.
