July 3, 2014 — The entire world soars like an eagle when this woman groans over a beat. For some reason she's mesmerizing and her anthem La La La (Brazil 2014) has lots of appeal. And she has ball skills too?
Don’t even get it twisted, Shakira is the undisputed queen of World Cup anthems. The Africa-flavoured (okay yes, Brazil-flavoured) video for La La La (Brazil 2014) features beautiful people of all kinds painted in Cup-attending nations’ colours. We spotted Nigeria, the US, Switzerland, Cameroon, Ghana, Algeria and Cote d’Ivoire but there’s loads more. Although it’s slated as a yoghurt company and WFP collaboration, it has “the real Cup anthem” written all over it. Smart move there, Shaki.
This will be the third straight appearance at a World Cup for the Colombian singer: “I’m thrilled to be performing my song La la la (Brazil 2014) at the 2014 Fifa World Cup closing ceremony,” said Shakira, who had a son last year with Spain defender Gerard Pique. He’s also in the video, we dare you not to like it.
Watch La La La (Brazil 2014) featuring Brazilian musician Carlinhos Brown:
And, yes, Messi and Neymar just smile and light up the video. That’s star power right there. 189 million viewers since May 22 and counting. Shakira – we give you all the World Cups. Just say a few words, be yourself, get up shake those hips that don’t lie and bob’s your uncle. You’ve got a great Cup anthem.
The World Cup closing ceremony will include guitar maestro Santana, Haitian-born musician Wyclef Jean and Brazilian singer Alexandre Pires who will perform the tournament’s official anthem, “Dar Um Jeito” at the legendary Maracana Stadium
