INTENSE GUNFIRE  reported at Hindi trading center between Mpeketoni and Mokowe, 15km from Lamu by unknown attackers, area chief Abdalla Shahasi confirms.

Mr Shahisi says that his office and that of the area DO were among the first to be attacked.

The attack comes at a time when the Deputy President is currently touring the Coast region and he is expected to go to Mpeketoni on Sunday to attend interfaith prayers.

In the neighbouring Tana Delta gunshots have also been reported in an exchange between the police and unknown attackers at Gamba police station on Lamu Malindi highway on your way to Witu. More to follow
